Redwood Dulcimer Day offers beginning to advanced music workshops on playing the Mountain Dulcimer, a magical sounding instrument that anyone can learn to play and some have taken to lofty heights.

Even if you are a complete beginner and do not own a dulcimer, come anyway. We will lend you an instrument and provide beginning level instruction to get you started. And if you already play, come prepared to make musical leaps. Redwood Dulcimer Day offers a low-pressure, low stress environment where everyone can relax and have fun playing and learning about the mountain dulcimer and just making music.

Our guest artist this year will be Karen Mueller, a dulcimer virtuoso with extensive experience as a performer, teacher, and recording artist. She started playing the dulcimer in 1979 by learning the progressive tunes on the "Pacific Rim Dulcimer Project" record, featuring dulcimer legends Neal Hellman, Force & d'Ossche, and Bonnie Carol. From there she started adding traditional Appalachian and Celtic music to her repertoire, and developed her own arrangements of these styles as well as pop, jazz, and original material. Her techniques range from rhythmic flatpicking and strumming to sensitive fingerpicking .

Redwood Dulcimer Day will be held on August 10 at the Aptos Community United Methodist Church. The church is near the ocean, just off State Route 1 at the Rio Del Mar exit, and offers some great new amenities. For more information on our venue, please check out our ABOUT page.

Your next step in all of this is, of course, to sign up. Please sign up soon on our REGISTRATION page so we can allocate classrooms and plan meals early. Thanks for joining us – we look forward to seeing you at RDD 2013.
